Prestige M48: an exception to the rule

Prestige M48 power catamaran

Updated on June 8th, 2024

Yes, we don’t really like catamarans, but sometimes there are exceptions. The Prestige M48 is just such a case. This is an interesting boat that has a lot to offer its owner.

It is noteworthy that this catamaran does not cause yawns, like many others, and its design is light and pleasing to the eye. But what’s most surprising is how spacious it is for its size. With a length of 14.8 meters and a beam of 6 meters, the catamaran actually has an internal volume almost like that of a superyacht. The central location of the full-beam master cabin makes you forget that you are on a multihull.

This layout requires some sacrifices, the most obvious of which is the low bridgedeck clearance. To somehow soften the impact of the waves, the middle part of the hull is V-shaped. Of course, this still reduces seaworthiness slightly, but most buyers will be willing to put up with it for the comfort of such a huge cabin. In addition, the adjoining guest cabins are also superior in size to traditional layouts because they each occupy half the entire beam of the catamaran, rather than being located in one of its hulls.

In any case, the catamaran is not positioned as an explorer or anything like that, because it belongs to category B, and its cruising range is only 400 nautical miles at a speed of 9 knots and 200 NM at a speed of 12 kn. However, this is more than enough for typical weekend coastal cruises.

Everything on this catamaran is conducive to a relaxing holiday for a large number of guests. The flybridge is incredibly huge, but the gangway leading up to it is quite steep, so you have to be careful with your drinks. Otherwise, moving around the boat is very easy and safe.

Overall the experience of the catamaran is very positive and we don’t know if anything can be improved here. Equipped with two Volvo D4 engines of 320 hp each, the boat costs 1,125,000 eur excluding VAT.
